Saturday 19th October 2013 – Let the celebrations commence!
You will know that Oxton Hockey Club celebrates its 125th Anniversary this year, having been founded in 1888.
A full programme of events is being arranged for the 2013/14 season, to ensure that the 125 years will be marked in some style!
The events will include a series of matches throughout the year against Clubs of a similar age to our own, together with special themed Oxton Club Days at the beginning and end of the season, to ensure that everyone can participate. The focal point will be a Celebration Dinner to be held at the Grange Country Club in Thornton Hough on Saturday 19th October.
The weekend of the 19th/20th October will be the high point of the celebrations. As well as the Dinner, there will be a “County Day” on the Sunday, with matches between Cheshire County sides and Oxton Men’s and Ladies teams. The Oxton Men’s Veterans will feature as many as possible of the National HA Trophy winning team from 1993.
Full details of the whole programme will be published during the summer as things firm up, and included on the website.
However, your attention is drawn in particular to the Dinner at this stage, due to the need for early booking. The whole of the Westwood Suite and Bar area at the Grange has been reserved, which means we can accommodate up to 180 people. It is hoped that as many as possible current and past members and their partner/guest will be able to attend. The ticket price of £30 per person includes a three course Dinner, but not drinks, and the event will be followed by musical entertainment for those who want it! All tickets will be included in a raffle to be drawn in the night. This will be a really great opportunity to socialise with friends old and new, and to mark the 125th milestone in the most worthy way.
Please note that the minimum age for attendance is 16, and that anyone below the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Tickets may be obtained from Alison Foster by completing and returning the form (please see documents section of website), together with a stamped addressed envelope so that the tickets can be posted out to you. Payment may be made either by enclosing a cheque for the appropriate amount (payable to “Oxton Hockey Club”), or by Bank Transfer of the appropriate sum directly to the Club’s Bank Account. Please note that places will be allocated on a “first come – first serve” basis.
Seating will be at tables of 8, so if you wish to organise a group of 8 please let Alison know the names on the completed reservation form and we should be able to accommodate you. Smaller groups can also be identified, and we will try to ensure that you are seated together as part of the overall seating plan.
Finally, a number of other initiatives are planned for the celebration, including updating the Club’s history to the full 125 years, and issuing a commemorative fixture card for 2013/14. Polo shirts, club ties and pennants all branded with the Oxton 125th logo will be produced for sale to members and others.
This is the first detailed “bulletin” about the 125th celebrations, and you will receive further updates in due course as the whole programme is developed.
